st.joachim Note that the women who were poisoned were employed at the Cherouney Printing Plant on Vanderwater Street. At that time the Fourth Ward had many factories and blue collar jobs.
My family has lived in Mary Driscoll's former apartment at 102 India Street for the past 37 years. When we moved into the apartment, in April 1972, our neighbor on the second floor was an, at the time, 88 year old woman who lived in the building since 1904. She told my younger sister and I about her friend, Mary, who lived next door. She told us how Mary attended a party and died a few days later. Funny how small the world really is.
Cherouny Printing & Publishing was owned and operated by my great grandfather, established by his father. It used to be located on Vandewater street prior to the erection of the BLYN bridge. I visited there a few years back and found no trace of Vandewater street.
I'd be most grateful if anyone has any information at all about Cherouny Printing & Publishing or Vandewater Street circa 1875-1900.
StrattonC, Arthur S. Cherouny, Henry William Cherouny was my husband's 3rd great-grandfather. I've collected information on the printing company during the course of my genealogy research. Please contact me. I'd love to share what I have found and hear any family history from you. I recognize this post is very old but I'm hoping it reaches you soon.
To StrattonC / Arthur S. Cherouny: The "Ephemeral New York" website has just published a large and detailed image of a 1912 postcard of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges area, and in that image, on the left (northeast of the Brooklyn Bridge), can be seen a very large ad for Cherouny Printing & Publishing Co. on the side of a building. It's not the company or the press building itself, for Vandewater Street was located downtown, south of the area depicted in the postcard. For what it's worth. Hello all, new to this board but have a few comments to share, my grandmother - Elizabeth Cherouny married my grandfather - John P Aellen in April 1927 in NY. Elizabeth had two siblings - Henry and Marie. Our Great Grandmother - Elizabeth Huth, was married to William August Cherouny and lived on Sheridan Avenue in NY.
Marie Cherouny married Walter Stern and had no children. Elizabeth had two children with John Aellen, my paternal grandfather, children were John Aellen Jr and Rose Marie Aellen.
John Aellen Jr married Lucille Greco and had six children, John III, Victor, Lucia, Eric, Anthony and Elizabeth Ann.
Henry Cherouny married and had two children; Grace and James.
My grandfather composed a rather lengthy biography - now a digital file too large to send by email. It would provide considerable additional information you might find helpful.
Please email me when you get a chance: aellenins@comcast.net

Thanks so much for adding to this board! I have been researching my Cherouny family tree off and on over the last couple of years. I am related to Henry W. Cherouny through my great grandfather, Arthur Ernst Cherouny, who was born to Henry W. Cherouny by his second wife, Elizabeth Fredericks. Their son, Arthur Stratton Cherouny, is my grandfather. I have acquired a bit of information and would love to share! I believe I received an email outside of this board from you, and will send a reply, so that we can more easily share documents and other information.
