Eydie Gorme: I Wanna Be Around

More from the tonight show, but this time with Johnny Carson in 1966
I wanna be around to pick up the pieces
When somebody breaks your heart
Some somebody twice as smart as I
A somebody who will swear to be true
As you used to do with me
Who'll leave you to learn
That mis'ry loves company, wait and see
I mean, I wanna be around to see how he does it
When he breaks your heart to bits
Let's see if the puzzle fits so fine
And that's when I'll discover that revenge is sweet
As I sit there applaudin' from a front-row seat
When somebody breaks your heart
Like you, like you broke mine

Steve And Eydie: This Could Be The Start Of Something Big

Bobby Darin, formerly of the Baruch Houses, had his version posted back in December
Their signature song
You're walkin' along the street, or you're at a party,
Or else you're alone and then you suddenly dig,
You're looking' in someone's eyes, you suddenly realize
That this could be the start of something big.
You're lunching at twenty-one and watchin' your diet,
Declining a charlotte russe, accepting a fig,
When out of a clear blue sky, it's suddenly gal and guy,
And this could be the start of something big.
There's no controlling the unrolling of your fate, my friend,
Who knows what's written in the magic book.
But when a lover you discover at the gate my friend,
Invite her in without a second look.
You're up in an aeroplane or dining at sardi's,
Or lying at malibu alone on the sand,
You suddenly hear a bell, and right away you can tell
That this could be the start of something grand.
This could be the start of something very big,
Why don't you play your part?
Please give your heart to me....and see.
This could be the start of something wonderful,
Why don't you take a chance?
Just try romance with me....and see.
Your watchin' the sun come up and countin' your money,
Or else in a dim cafe you're ordering wine,
Then suddenly there he is, and you wanna be where he is,
And this must be the start of something...
This could be the heart of something...
This could be the start of something big.

Eydie Gorme: I'll Take Romance

from the 1960's
I'll take romance,
While my heart is young and eager to fly,
I'll give my heart a try - I'll take romance.
I'll take romance,
While my arms are strong and eager for you,
I'll give my arms their cue - I'll take romance.
(Bridge:)
So when you want me, call me,
In the hush of the evening;
When you call me in the hush of the
Evening I'll rush to my
First real romance,
While my heart is young and eager and gay,
I'll give my heart away - I'll take romance.

Blame It On The Bossa Nova

Maybe the financial collapse can be blamed on the bossa nova?
Eydie Gorme Gormenzano was mentioned here previously and even "spotted" by her cousin who discovered the posting
"Blame it on the Bossa Nova" is a 1963 hit song performed by Eydie GormĂ©. It reached #7 on the US charts and #32 on the UK charts. She also recorded the song in Spanish, “CĂșlpale a la bossa nova.”[The song was written by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.
I was at a dance when he caught my eye
Standin' all alone lookin' sad and shy
We began to dance, swaying' to and fro
And soon I knew I'd never let him go
Blame it on the bossa nova with its magic spell
Blame it on the bossa nova that he did so well
Oh, it all began with just one little dance
But then it ended up a big romance
Blame it on the bossa nova
The dance of love
(Now was it the moon?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Or the stars above?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Now was it the tune?)
Yeah, yeah, the bossa nova
(The dance of love)
[Instrumental organ]
Now I'm glad to say I'm his bride to be
And we're gonna raise a family
And when our kids ask how it came about
I'm gonna say to them without a doubt
Blame it on the bossa nova with its magic spell
Blame it on the bossa nova that he did so well
Oh, it all began with just one little dance
But then it ended up a big romance
Blame it on the bossa nova
The dance of love
(Now was it the moon?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Or the stars above?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Now was it the tune? )
Yeah, yeah, the bossa nova
(The dance of love)
(Now was it the moon?)
No, no, the bossa nova
(Or the stars above ?)
[Fade]
No, no, the bossa nova

Amazing how writing this jogs the memory. I remember taking a social dancing course at Brooklyn College on Saturdays while I was attending there in the late 60's. This was one the records played by the teacher, Gussie Green. I was one of the "stars" of the class and I had visions that my partner was Nancy Bueller again. Wow, that was buried somewhere in some lobe until now.
