I've been looking for an excuse to write about this man, but I couldn't quite make the KV connection. If there has ever been an elected NYC official who personifies honesty, integrity and hard work it's this guy. In my opinion, he has been almost always on the correct side of every political issue. Even those who opposed him gave him respect. Sadly, he has been largely ignored by history. More on him later.
In the above article, from 1935, he came down to the Lower East Side from his native East Harlem to support the tenants in their battle against management.
