Crossing Delancey Is Really Crossing East Broadway
The opening scene of Crossing Delancey: Amy Irving emerges out of the East Broadway subway station (the "home" station for Knickerbocker Village) and proceeds to walk south to East Broadway. Yet, if you look closely you see the station entrance has been renamed Delancey to maintain continuity with the film title. It has the J train stopping there. Then a few frames later she's walking north on Essex towards Delancey. This gives a good view of Rutgers Square 20 years ago. There have been many changes since then, not so much architecturally as in other streets on the LES, but many of the stores are different. More "cinema mistakes:" Amy is shown entering a Grand Street Coop Building to visit her "Bobba." Yet the view seen from the building's eastern window of Delancey Street and the Williamsburg Bridge are from the Seward Park Extension Projects on Broome Street.
I made a panoramic movie of it in this earlier post.
