Valerie

There was a Valerie in my class at PS 177. She was not very attractive and not very popular and appeared very unhappy. I seem to recall her mother wasn't very friendly and might have been strict. I wonder whether her unhappiness was also due perhaps to the usual unnecessary cruelty of kids to each other. I wonder how her life turned out. I doubt she was anything like the Valerie described here, since no one "invited her to come over."
Anyway, maybe that's just a lame excuse to use this song by Mark Ronson with a vocal by the unseen Amy Winehouse. I think she's great. What a surprise for a guy almost 60 to find his musical likes merge with what's popular with the young. I'm sure my parents and my friends could not comprehend the stuff we listened to as kids. Evidently the album that contains this song is up for a Grammy. More info on that and lyrics: Did you get a good lawyer?
Ronson received a Grammy nomination in early December 2007 for Producer of the Year, Non Classical, along with Timbaland and Mike Elizondo. Ronson's work with Amy Winehouse also received substantial praise, gaining 6 nominations. Back To Black, an album completely produced by Ronson was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album. Rehab, received nods for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and, more importanty, Record of the Year.
Well Sometimes I Go Out, By Myself, And I Look Across The Water.
And I Think Of All The Things, Of What You're Doing, And in my head I Paint A Picture.
Since I've Come Home, Well My Body's Been A Mess, And I Miss Your ginger Hair, And The Way You Like To Dress.
Oh Wont You Come On Over, Stop Making A Fool Out Of Me, Why Dont You Come On Over, Valerie.

Did You Have To Go To Jail, Put Your House Out Up For Sale, Did You Get A Good Lawyer.
I Hope You Didnt Catch A Tan, I Hope You Find The Right Man, Who'll Fix It For You.
Are You Shopping Anywhere, Change The Color Of Your Hair, And Are You Busy.
Did You Have To Pay That Fine, That You Were Dodging All The Time, Are You Still Dizzy.
Well Since I Come Home, Well My Body's Been A Mess, And I Miss Your Tender Hair, And The Way You Like To Dress.
Oh Wont You Come On Over, Stop Making A Fool Out Of Me, Oh Why Dont You Come On Over, Valerie.
