Who's Who In Knickerbocker Village History: Mark Toby

Mark wrote "The Courtship Of Eddie's Father" and I knew Eddie, but not well. He was two years my junior. Eddie spelled his name Toby. I've googled him and he seems to be a writer judging by all the references to articles to a Eddie Toby. Makes sense that he would follow in his dad's footsteps. The Toby's probably moved to Eastchester after the success of the book and later the movie with Glenn Ford. Unfortunately Mark died at a young age in 1972. I couldn't find a picture of him.

update, 4/4/08: The Eddie Toby that's a writer spells his name Tobey. I just recently found the real Eddie Toby living in New Jersey.

I had the privilege of being one of Mark Toby's students at Washington Irving HS. He taught history with great humor and flair. It was the reason every student loved him and learned with pleasure. His novel came out while I was there and the students' favorite game was picking out each of the teachers we thought were represented in the book. It's sad to lose someone as talented as "Mr. Toby" even after all these years.
