Richie O'Connor And Frank Mosco: NY Times 1976

Frank Mosco coached Transfiguration's outstanding little league team in the late 50's and 1960's . Richie O'Connor was a nemesis of some of my juniors. Ron told a story about him at the 2007 reunion Frank Mosco was acquitted of all charges and I've since learned how fraudulent this case was. See comments below as testimony to his characterMosco Street in Chinatown is named for him

By the way - the charges were later dropped and my grandfather was exonerated. When he passed on New York City honored him by changing Park St. (originally Cross St.) to Mosco street. My father was asked to choose between the street name or changing Columbus Park to Frank Mosco Square. Having grown up in the neighborhood, my father felt that changing the park name was "too much" and accepted the street. Of course, later the park was expanded and the street shortened. I'm sure my grandfather who helped facilitate the building of many parks in downtown Manhattan was smiling up in heaven.

Frank Mosco coached our Transfiguration Church little league baseball team back in the late 50s, early 60s. If it weren't for Frank Mosco we wouldn't have had an opportunity to play in organized sports. It's hard to believe he had to endure the trumped-up criminal charge described in the article. He apparently was just trying to help out as usual and, for his trouble, wound up being accused of shaking down an undercover officer .

Frank Mosco worked hard to keep children from becoming criminals by his example and through his pro bono service to the community. He helped kids all over the neighborhood for a long, long time. He was a role model of the first order and for that Frank Mosco deserves a much grander memorial than the one-block long side street named after him. Instead, Columbus Park or some school should have been named after him, but apparently his modesty wouldn't permit it. It isn't too late to change that and give Frank Mosco his due.

I went to Transfiguration elementary school with his son Vincent (aka Jimmy) Mosco, who was brilliant and turned out to be credit to his family and his friends on Mulberry Street.

God bless Frank Mosco. If only there were more people like him in this world, it would be a much better place to live.

DITTO TO WHAT LARRY V SAID. FRANK MOSCO WAS ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN MY LIFE WHEN I WAS A STUDENT AT TRANSFIGURATION GRAMAR SCHOOL. HE COUHCED US TO TITLE IN LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL AND WAS ALSO OUR BASKETBALL COACH. I'M SURE HE WAS A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCES IN THE 1976 BICENTENNIAL ISSUE.

I'll pass this on to my Dad - I'm sure he'll know who Mooney is. I don't know about a race - but he'd probably kick your butt on the tennis court. :)
