Albina Caruso: 21 New Bowery

I noticed on the KV Triangle Victim Map that the address for Albina Caruso was incorrect. I got that location from the chalk google map. The New Bowery was different from The Bowery. The New Bowery doesn't exist anymore, it is now St. James Place. The location now is .part of the Smith Projects. The map is from 1891. Below is a 1920 picture of that area showing the First Jewish Cemetery. In 1920 a section of the Third Avenue Elevated ran overhead

Where would 21 St. James be now? My great aunt was Albina Caruso. She was one of the girls who jumped out the windows. She planned to marry soon but her dreams ended. But, her great niece is now a member of a public union thanks to her and the other girls.

Thanks for leaving that comment Barbara and thank goodness that there are unions, both public and private. 21 New Bowery is now 21 St. James Place. James Street is the block that St. James Church is located on.
