Film Noir : From 12/11/05

December 2nd's Times had an interesting article on 3 film noir classics highlighting NYC exteriors. They had recently been released on DVD. I ordered all three (via half com) and the first one I viewed, "Where The Sidewalk Ends," was terrific. A crucial scene takes place on 58 Pike Street, right around the corner from my beloved childhood home, "Knickerbocker Village." I watched carefully for historic accuracy and it looks like the director, Otto Preminger, did a good job.
The photo, above right, shows a comparison of what the area looked like in a 1936 Berenice Abbott photo as opposed to a scene from the movie. The corresponding buildings, with the red and yellow arrows, look the same and 58 Pike Street is just to the right of where the taxi stops (see the post below). Here's the article from the Times.
