The Saga Of Birnbaum The Butcher, Part 1

The entry with the picture of Monroe Street, 1934 triggered a fascinating thread of KV chatter
My grandmother (father's mother- Tessie Birnbaum) had her own Chicken Market (Fresh Killed Every Day-Kosher) at 701 East 9th Street, Corner Ave C. My cousin recently sent me a photocopy of her 'card'. She and her husband had a butcher shop MANHATTAN BEEF CO. at 997 Manhattan Ave Brooklyn, which I guess would be Williamsburg! I think the Williamsburg store came first because they lived on 10th Street in manhattan....and when they had a butcher store on 10th Street, that's where my father learned the trade.

701 is now an empty lot
