Klezmer music and Chinese opera, scribal art and calligraphy, Yiddish and Chinese lessons, folk arts and hands-on activities, tours of the Eldridge Street Synagogue and, of course, kosher egg rolls and egg creams! Plus: This year the Center for Traditional Music and Dance will be recording your favorite folksongs. Come prepared with your tune and belt it out, karaoke-style!

I Like New York In June 13th: Windsor Terrace

The renovation of the former pet store revealed an old stained glass candy store sign at 216 Prospect Park West. I searched to get info on the store and found it on the Gowanus Lounge site

Yes, the new liquor-store owners are indeed keeping the stained glass! They are also buffing up the old tile floors and some other details inside, and told me they’re excited about the restoration.
I spoke with some old time locals about the place. It was called Wetter’s (sp.?) and run by a German-American family of the same name from circa late 1930s-early/mid ’60s. Your basic soda fountain scene that also served burgers and the like. The counter was on the right, booths on the left. It was most recently a pet food/supply store.

I Like New York In June: Boerum Hill/Brooklyn Heights

featuring an extended version of "How About You" by Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh and Bill Evans. The sights include a disappointing Greek Festival, Brooklyn Borough Hall, a beautiful view of the two bridges shore front along with an interesting exhibit called the Telectroscope. There must have been almost 500 people attending a private party at te Bargemusic from the Brooklyn Attorney General's Office! Note the Knickerbocker Village image that was part of a scaffolding decoration at about 2:40 of the movie

I Like New York In June: Henry Moore At The New York Botanical Gardens

Matched with Stephane Grappelli. About the exhibit:

Moore in America: Monumental Sculpture at The New York Botanical Garden is the largest outdoor exhibition of Henry Moore's sculpture ever presented in a single venue in the United States. The collection of approximately 20 major pieces will be positioned throughout the Garden's 250 acres and among its 50 gardens and plant collections.
The Henry Moore Foundation, which is dedicated to furthering the understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of Moore's work, is collaborating with The New York Botanical Garden to mount this exhibition.

The connection to Knickerbocker you ask? Moore was a favorite of Linda Babits of 14 Monroe Street. Note the "nancy tagging" wasn't virtual, but digitally added (at approx 2:29)

The first of a new series. 6/1/08 was a really beautiful day. Many of the pics are raw material for several panoramas to follow. I might as well start with the best version, Sinatra's with Nelson Riddle
