Many KVers at the reunion took an interest in the posters I put together of archival images that are earmarked for the future basement KV museum. They've been on the blog before, but I thought I'd run them again in this slide show.

Benson's Capcine Porous Plaster Slide Show

The firm of Seabury & Johnson was formed around 1874 to produce and market Benson's Capcine Porous Plasters. Private die stamps for the product, with their depiction of the Good Samaritan, did not appear until 1880. They continued to be issued until May 1, 1883. 2,938,320 were printed, all on watermarked paper.
The term "Porous" in connection with medicinal plasters had been copyrighted by B. Brandreth, and a lawsuit was settled against Seabury & Johnson shortly after the stamp appeared. Many copies of their stamp have the word obliterated either by a printed bar or a pen mark. This variety is given a separate catalog listing.
There is no information on the lake variety other than the supposition that only one sheet was delivered. It may have been a trial or an error. Obliteration of the word "Porous" indicates that it was prepared for use.
This cancel on a general issue proprietary stamp is believed to have been used by Seabury and Johnson.
Around 1885 Robert Johnson left Seabury & Johnson and went into business with his brother under the name Johnson & Johnson. This firm took over Seabury & Johnson in 1896 but continued to operate it as a separate unit, as can be seen in this 1899 cover. Johnson & Johnson, of course, is still active today.

26 Canal Street: Aba Supergift

Over the last few years I've gotten to know the owner of the store at 26 Canal Street. I get all my watch batteries repaired there, phone chargers, headphones, etc.
The owner is a very nice man. I made copies of the pictures of the Lepkoff pictures from my Life On The Lower East Side Book to give him. It showed his building from 60 years ago. He was fascinated and very appreciative.

Although the pictures are nice, the one of interest is the photo of the group of boys and girls. You will see Ms. Bueller in the second row from the top row at the right end as well as Ms. Katz at the left end of that row. Not sure if you knew her, but Joyce Weinstein is next to Evelyn. Most of the KV group would know her. That picture was taken in the Summer of '64 as that was a picture of the Staff Assistants working in Camp Cummings. I was on the kitchen staff working as a waiter that year. The boy above Nancy was her boyfriend that summer, Larry Heinbach. He had a gorgeous cousin who I was totally enamored with. Went out with her a couple of times but she was in love, and eventually married, the "boy almost next door." The picture above is my bunkmates in Camp Edalia in the Summer of '63. The guy above the 1963 holding the sheet is Mark Vogel who was in our class at SHS. The guy to his right, Steve Grollman, who sent me this file, was a year behind us at SHS. Not sure if any of the KV group was at Edalia that year besides Stewie, who was in another bunk. Nathanson may have been there. Murray too. Not sure.
The girl next to Nancy was my girlfriend for that summer and another few months, and the picture on the bottom right of the brunette was my girlfriend in the summer of '66 and a few months after that.

Images referenced from Cliff's KV Notes 13: a 1950 era Henry J, the cover of the Compleat Practical Joker, an old wind up phonograph with a metal needle and a speaker in the arm and Stuyvesant gym teacher and football and wrestling coach, Murl Thrush. I had him as a teacher as well. Some day I'll tell a funny story about me and coach Thrush.
