Who's Almost Who In Knickerbocker Village History: George Burns
Above: George Burns (Nathan Birnbaum) lived here in 1917. Remarkably, it's one of the few tenements left on the block. It's between Avenues C and D. Below, his WW1 draft card. He was 21 years old. He was a performer, working in “various circuits.” He claimed to be exempt from military duty since he was the sole support of his mother.
In 1900 Burns lived at 230 Rivington Street. In 1910 he lived at 311 Rivington. Both of those buildings are no longer there.
